The answer is yes, to examine our self. For example when we are in a pitch dark room and when someone calls and asks are you there? we cannot say,- it is so dark that I cannot see any thing, I cannot see me and I do not know if I am here or not - because our existence is not based on any perceptions - or perceptions are not pramana for our existence. Similarly, We cannot even say that I am able to hear you therefore I must be here somewhere- because we do not need logic or inference to prove our existence. Whole universe can deny our existence, but we know we are there. We do not need some experience to prove our existence. In fact since we exist as conscious entity, all experiences are possible. Hence, we do not need any pramana (according to our vedic scholars there are six pramanas starting from pratyaksha, anumana, sabda, upamana, artapatti and anupalabdi - and sabda pramana is the sastra pramana)-and none of them are needed to prove that we exist and that we are consciousness. I do not need sastras to tell me that I exist and that I am a conscious entity.

ATHMAPARIKSHA Every Upanishad has a type of teaching called Prakriya, inplicity or Explicity (a state of reasoning by which we can reach in your original place)It is the way to study our self. They are two main types which is describe in (1) Mandukya Upanishad And (2) Taittiriya Upanishad All the materialistic world only can give the Bhoga Sukha for a time being, but not a permanent happiness. Mandukya Upanishad which deals with Abastha traya (Jagrata, Swapna, Susupti and Turiya), understanding our self by knowing the perceiver (Gnatrutya) like and dislike (Bhoktrutya) And karma (Kartrutya), so all the three increase the speed and activity in mind. Which is speed, leads towards the duhkha. But in sleep there is no “I” ness exist, we are in that anandamaya state, always in bless. Trittiriya Upanishad tells us the pancha kosa viveka.  Annamaya kosa  Pranamaya kosa  Manomaya kosa  Vijnanamaya kosa  Anandamaya kosa May be vijnanamaya kosa is the highest but still there we are focusing non the less we are struggling for it. so it is taxing, tiding and exerting, so for complete happiness we have to go above it. From gross (stula) to sukhma (shuttle) – Khata We are the perceiver of yourself around us. We are the cognisear we are the knower and known. We are vikritya , the like and dislike. When there is no Emotion no action or no transaction with external world that is Susupti. Where non of the above are there but we have exist. How?? That is the real state of happiness, the Ananda state. We think the object gives us the enjoyment but hear it is one state where there is no object of enjoyment, still we are happy, and nothing bothers. If sleep bring us that much happiness then why not stay in the sleep state while awaking. Always non doing is better than doing some thing, it is difficult to accept. so mastery over the mind is emptiness or blank in Vedanta called Turiya State. OM shanti, shanti shanti
